Edric, the Hatchling Gryphon is a medieval tale of a young gryphon that grows into a brave warrior destined to save his species.
Edric’s story begins with a strange blue stone believed to be a gryphon egg, that is nurtured by a woodsman, Aerek, and his friend, Beecie, an herb collector, in the Mythic Mountains.
The stone indeed hatches a gryphon, a mythical creature with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion, whom they name Edric.
As Edric grows, he proves his bravery by rescuing some children from a wolf, saving Beecie from a troll, and finally saving his new mountain home from a gang of huge and smelly Cyclops.
The story of Edric, the Hatchling Gryphon is told first person by Aerek, and holds the reader’s attention as the tale unfolds from his finding the blue stone to the blow-by-blow battle with the Arimaspi Cyclops, and to Edric finding his own kind and learning of his special status.

Edric the Hatchling Gryphon by Eric K. Williams, D. Min.
Aerek, woodsman and former soldier, comes across a beautiful yet strange looking stone while hiking deep in his mountain woods. He shares his discovery with his friend Beecie, and together they find the surprise of their lives. This is not a stone at all! Itis the egg of a mysterious creature called a Gryphon. This is the story of their adventures with a hatchling Gryphon named Edric.(taken from the back of the book)
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Gryphons. Edric has found his own special spot. If you go onto Eric's Facebook page, you can see pictures of Edric heading off on a pontoon ride! He's an adorable little Gryphon!
And this was an adorable little story! The characters are just awesome. They remind me of when my sons and I play act and get all silly and uppity. 'Why yes, sir! Your tea will most certainly be done by mid-morning!' And you know you have to add that wonderful little playful accent! The entire story is told from Aerek's perspective and so you immediately adopt this wonderful play acting voice for him that reaches throughout the entire story. Breecie has this fairy like quality to her and every time you're reading a section with her in it, you can just see her filmy little dress blowing in the breeze while she extends her pinky for another sip of tea.
Edric is the sweetest little thing! From the moment he hatches, he has this wonderful charm about him. It's difficult to explain. He's noble and kind and protective, but he still wants his ale and his gold! I loved getting to be a part of his early years and seeing him knighted and becoming a hero! The best part is that this is the beginning of his journey, so I'm sure we have a lot more to learn about him.
This sweet adventure story would be great for children ages ten and up. Honestly, it's a little simplistic for most adults, but the story is still enough to keep you engaged. There are some great morals enclosed that are gently nudged at you instead of hammered into you. There's also a great battle scene at the end for the adventure seeker.

This review is from: Edric the Hatchling Gryphon: 1 (Kindle Edition)
This is a wonderful book for both children and adults who read to children. Not only is it a great fantasy story about a mythical creature but it also teaches bravery, sharing, honor and friendship.
Aerek, a young man, finds a blue rock. It is strange looking and he shows it to his friend Miss Beecie. She helps him determine that it is a Gryphon egg. They take care of it and it hatches. Knowing that it isn't a pet or a tame creature, Aerek raises the little animal and calls it Edric. They have all sorts of adventures. Aerek teaches Edric what it is to be human and Edric teaches him what it is to be a gryphon. The ending of this chapter in Edric's life was a big surprise.
I hope there will be more to this story. Every child would really like this, especially those that remember the Gryphon is part of Gryffindor of Harry Potter fame. This will be a book that I will remember and share with others.

5 Stars..... REVIEW
I found this book to be a wonderful children's book. It has many lessons that can be taught to the young ones. Values, learning to share, being honest and strong. The book is very easy to read and should be kept to read many times over. The author wrote with a magical feel as the reader turns the pages. Children love magic and fantasy and using this, it keeps the child interested while learning some valuable lessons. I also think the book isn't just for children. Even readers that are young at heart will enjoy this book which is filled with magic, gryphons, lessons and so much more. I hope there will be more from this author.

A beautiful blue Agate stone is found in the woods by Aerek, a former soldier and now a woodsman. The beautiful blue of the stone so captured his attention that he picked it up to bring to his friend Beecie, who knows a lot about the woods and all its flora and fauna. They puzzle over the warm stone and decide to build a nest just in case it is a Gryphon. When it hatches Aerek and Beecie become caretakers of this captivating creature. They name the Gryphon, Edric.
This is a creative and imaginative adventure about a Gryphon, a strange creature that is half bird on the upper body and lion on the lower body. Gryphons love gold and will fight to protect their stash. All ages will enjoy this tale with trolls and Arimaspi, one-eyed giants. Edric shows his courage and strength and just how powerful he can be.
There will be more exciting adventures to come that will delight and engage children.

What would you do if a pretty agate stone you found, wasn’t a stone after all? What if it was an egg? Aerek and Beecie have to decide this when it turns out that Aerek has found a gryphon egg, and not a pretty rock.
This was a cute story. Aerek and Beecie are two of the most interesting people in these mountains. After all, just how many people are willing to hatch out a gryphon egg?
The story will capture the hearts of children as well. Edric is much like any other young ‘un, and then some. He gets his nose into everything. Of course, he has to find trouble as well.
I can’t quite wait for the sequel, if only to see if Edric ever gets his ale.

Edric the Hatchling Gryphon by Dr. Eric Williams
I have to confess I have a passion for gryphons so when I was asked to review this book I was quite excited. Gryphons don’t suffer the same sort of popularity as other fantasy creatures such as elves, trolls or even vampires (yuck!) but they deserve to. They are a very interesting creature that would offer most authors a wonderful opportunity to explore the fantasy genre.
And this is what Dr. Williams has done. Edric the Hatchling Gryphon is a book for all ages. Younger children who are not ready to read would certainly enjoy having this book read out loud to them. It’s not too complicated and is easy to follow.
The story finds an ex solider, Aerek, who wishes for a quiet life as a woodsman finding an interesting stone. Rushing to his friend, Beecie, to ask her if she knows what the stone is they marvel at its beauty and its warmth. After a bit of research they think they have a very prized gryphon egg; not just an ordinary stone. From here the adventures begin. The egg hatches and we meet Edric; a cheeky but good hearted gryphon.
Their peaceful life is disturbed by trolls and Cyclops and our heroes are left to defend themselves and something else that is very precious to them.
Many parents will be pleased that there is no sarcastic or rude language used in this book and that it offers a gentle guide to good values. I can highly recommend it.

The plot of this book is one that has been used many times, former soldier Aerek finds an unusual stone of great beauty in a mountain woods. He picks it up and later discovers that the stone is actually the egg of the Gryphon, a powerful creature with the head, talons and wings of an eagle but the body of a lion. They are part of the lore of Aerek and his people and they are supposed to be untamable.
When the egg hatches the hatchling is called Edric and Aerek and his group discover that they can communicate with Edric telepathically and that he is tamer than they expected. Although the people that know of Edric are smart enough to let him be a Gryphon and not try to domesticate him. People in their community come into danger and Edric proves to be a capable defender. The entire community comes under attack by the mighty Arimaspian Cyclops and it is up to the much smaller humans and Edric to defeat these terrible raiders.
Despite the plot being a rehash of one that has been used many times, Williams makes this story work. He does it by keeping it moving and at a level of late middle school. The story is a fantasy involving an animal allied with humans against a deadlier foe, one that humans, especially children, have a natural affinity for. The writing is clear and concise; the story is taken from start to completion in 65 pages.

Having read Edric the Hatching Gryphon, I find it to be a delightful tale full of adventure with fascinating characters and an engrossing plot that highlights caring relationships, loyal camaraderie, and courageous actions to overcome threatening challenges. Although it is designed for young readers, I think it is it is appropriate for readers of all ages. I believe that they will look forward to the continuing story in future sequels.

I have finished reading Edric the Hatchling Gryphon. It was great! As someone who has worked with children for many years, I know they would enjoy it. It was exciting and really held my attention. I love the way Dr. Williams incorporated his siblings in the story. I do plan on buying a hard copy for my grandson, who is 11, I know he will like it. Good job!

For me, this was a quick, easy read. But what I am most excited about is that I have a book on my kindle that my own children can read. I teach elementary school and cannot wait to project this from my kindle to my board to read to my students this school year. It will be a great writing prompt and trigger their imagination. There's something magical within the pages of a book that cannot be duplicated for children. Kind of exciting that there is such a tremendous variety of books on Kindle. Kids love reading from a Kindle just as much as adults. Really glad I stumbled over this gem and can't wait to download more from this author.
I just know kids will adore the adventures with a hatchling Gryphon named Edric. I did!

This is a super cool children's book. It can help teach them values, sharing, honor, and bravery. A very easy read but the story is strong and will be remembered. The way Eric has ended this "chapter", he has me anxiously waiting for the next installment. I am sure Edric has some major challenges in his life as he begins to fulfill his life's goals.

This is a fun read. The characters are well developed. The author managed to vividly take me to the time and place that Edric lived in. Loved the ending and how there is now room for more stories and additional characters. Would love to see going forward additional character development of the warriors. They definitely have a brotherly camaraderie.
